The villages Vaassen, Emst, Oene and Epe were liberated by Canadian troops at the end of the Second World War during the so-called “Cleansel” operation. The liberation took place on April 17, 18 and 19, 1945. In the year 2022 we will therefore commemorate 77 years of liberation. “To You” contributes to this by performing a special concert in the Church in the center Epe on Saturday evening, April 23, 2022, at 7.30 p.m. The whole is under musical direction of conductor Henk van der Maten and is accompanied by various professional musicians: Arjan Post (Trumpet / Bugle), Edith Post (Trumpet / Bugle), Harrie Stijf (Piano), Willem Veldkamp (Synthesizer), Hendrie Westra (Percussion and percussion).

The core of the musical part is formed by the cantata “Of Faith and Freedom” by the famous American composer Joseph M. Martin, supplemented with various songs on the themes of hope, love, peace and freedom. As far as we know, this is the first time that this cantata has been performed in the Netherlands. The songs are interspersed with short personal stories.

In collaboration with the “Broken Wings ‘40-‘45” foundation, the concert will have a multimedia dimension because the music will be combined with suitable photos and film images.
