DOORWERTH – The worst threat to the existence of castle Doorwerth occurred during the Second World War when fire and the aftermath of the battle of Arnhem left their mark. In the autumn of 1944 there was little left of the castle complex than a desolate ruin. Rebuilding and restoration took more than 37 years.

Especially for the commemoration of 75 years of Market Garden, Geldersch Landschap & Kasteelen has organized a guided tour around the castle. A guide takes the visitors past remarkable places in the battle and will tell the story based upon photos and eyewitness reports.

August 16, 18, 21, 24 and 25, 1,6,8,13,15,20 and September 22.
