DOORWERTH – The worst threat to the existence of castle Doorwerth occurred during the Second World War when fire and the aftermath of the battle of Arnhem left their mark. In the autumn of 1944 there was little left of the castle complex than a desolate ruin. Rebuilding and restoration took more than 37 years.
