The damaged wall on the side wall of the former outer wall of the town hall in Tiel, now the inner wall of the council chamber, recalls the shelling of the city from September 1944. Tiel then became a city at the frontline. Three-quarters of the city centre was destroyed, and the inhabitants had to evacuate.
