The ‘De Ongelooflijke Patrouille’ monument in Elst commemorates six American soldiers who crossed the Rhine at Heteren in two canvas boats on the night of 29 October 1944. They managed to get far behind enemy lines where they captured 32 soldiers and brought them back to the American headquarters.
