On Sunday, September 17th, 1944 the skies above the Netherlands were filled with aircrafts. On that day and the next days, hundreds of British gliders and thousands of British paratroopers landed in the fields around Wolfheze. That event marked the beginning of what we now call ‘The Battle of Arnhem’; an operation with one single goal: capturing the Arnhem bridge from the German occupying forces.
The Glider Collection Wolfheze shows the gliders of those days. By exhibiting large original pieces of these aeroplanes, tangible memories, pictures and stories, this collection provides an insight into many different types of gliders, their utilisation and the size of the whole airborne operation.
