The Maple Leaf Monument, a Canadian maple with a memorial stone underneath, is a reminder of the liberation of Apeldoorn on 17 April 1945. It was erected as a tribute to all Canadians who fought for the liberation of the Netherlands and in particular to the Canadian Lieutenant-general Simonds.
